Capital Gets “Military Friendly” Recognition; Vets Drop-In Center Opened in 2008

Capital Community College has been named to Victory Media’s 2013 Military Friendly Schools list. The list represents the top tier of U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools who provide military students with the best services, programs, discounts, scholarships, clubs and networking.

Since 2001 Victory Media and its publications have set the standard for ranking schools that recruit military personnel and veterans as students. This year they examined over 12,000 VA-approved schools list and selected more than 1,700 for inclusion on the competitive list.

Capital Community College created a Veterans Drop-In Center in Fall 2008, as a place for vets to gather information about VA programs and benefits, and equally valuable – to meet each other, share coffee and get peer support. Over 125 veterans are at Capital this fall.

“It is an honor to be among the more than 1,700 schools doing the most to educate American veterans,” said Margaret Abraham, Capital’s Veterans Counselor. “We’re proud of the support we provide veterans in transitioning to civilian life and creating a path to a successful future for themselves and their families.”
