2014 Spring Semester Concerts @ Capital Series Announced: Alturas Duo Opens Free Concerts February 13th

Arthur Hernandez, DMA, music professor and program coordinator at Capital Community College,  has announced the 2014 Spring Semester Concerts @ Capital series supported in part by the Capital Community College Foundation.

The Alturas Duo, an award-winning ensemble, known for playing "passionate music" between the Baroque and South American folk rhythms.

The Alturas Duo, a chamber music ensemble merging classical and South American folk rhythms, will kick off  Concerts @ Capital Series on Thursday, February 13th, at 6 pm at Centinel Hill Hall Auditorium. The concert will include Professor Hernandez’ work “Fugue and Fantasy”.

The Duo, with Carlos Boltes on viola and charangos and Scott Hill on the guitar, has performed in Brazil, Canada, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and throughout the US and Puerto Rico including recitals at: Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, the Smithsonian Institute, the Music Mountain Chamber Music Series, La Guitarra California, and the 34th International Viola Congress

Five additional concerts are planned this semester:

Thursday, February 27, 2014: “Musical Impressions” Richard Provost, guitar

Thursday, March 6, 2014: “HAPPY 300th Birthday”, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) with Iris Braus, piano.

Thursday, March 20, 2014:  Oboe Duo Agosto. with Charles Huang and Ling Fei-Kang, oboes. 

Thursday, April 17, 2013:  The Hartford Composers Concert Series Featuring Matt Sargent, David Cutright, Enrique Espinoza and special guest Stephen Michael Gryc.

Thursday, May 1, 2014: Capital Music! The Capital Jazz Ensemble, Jason Schwartz, director with Top Floor Vocal Ensemble, Joshua Hummel, director and  Electronic Music Compositions, Karl Messerschmidt, director
